Advice | Cocoa Bean Shortage Looming For 2013/2014, Get Your Chocolate Before It's Gone
Over the next couple of years, chocolate prices could most likely soar due to a predicted cocoa bean shortage.
Since 2011, the number of certified fair trade cocoa farmers has been significantly depleting in the Ivory coast, where 40% of the world's cocoa beans are grown. To make things worse, the West African supply is declining as well.
With a lack of farmers, a lack of supply, and an increase in demand, chocolate 'droughts' were predicted to be happening between 2013-2014; in other words, incredibly soon.
What exactly does all of this mean? Chocolate prices will soon be skyrocketed, with very little hope of it ever returning. Ladies, I highly recommend you get out there on your next paycheck and stock up on your favorite kinds of chocolate products; if not, you may need to reach for a tub or box of something else if you are ever having one of those days...
Good Luck!
